We woke up in sunny Phoenix to a weather report of a 71 degree high today. Wow! Rick was so stoked to wear his shorts. We headed out for some tailgating at University of Phoenix Stadium before the Cardinals/Packers game. Tailgating is an understatement in Phoenix. There is a designated area that is made up of 8 acres of green grass which they call the "Great Lawn". This is not a misnomer. It is great. Acre upon acre of tents, generators to run flat screen tv's, satellite dishes, beer pong tables, coolers, and facepaint. One of cousin Chris' friends won "Cardinals Fan of the Game" and so he was completely facepainted and had a crazy mohawk wig on. This inspired Jolene to get a Cardinal painted on her face. She was wearing green (by accident) and felt the need to balance it out. Unfortunately, this was a regrettable decision as the Cardinals lost 33-7. We even missed the one TD they scored because we left about 5 minutes into the 4th quarter. Why we even stayed that long is unclear.
After the game, we stopped by Chris' mom's house for a quick visit. Jolene had not seen her for about 20 years and had never met Chris' step-dad. We had a nice little visit. We are now back at Chris & Joannah's house getting ready for dinner. Jolene was so relieved to wash that darn cardinal off of her face! Joannah is making dinner (steaks, asparagus, pasta salad) and the guys are playing pool. Of course, the Jets/Bengals game is on the tv. We're off to enjoy our visit...
